Nominees My Picks/Predictions

Best Film

*Black Swan

*Inception

*The King's Speech

*The Social Network

*True Grit

"The Social Network" won the Golden Globe, so it is possible it will win here. My personal favorite of the nominees? It's a three way tie between "Inception", "The King's Speech", and "True Grit."

Gabriel's Pick: "True Grit" - "The cowboy one, I love."

Outstanding British Film

*127 Hours

Another Year

Four Lions

*The King's Speech

Made in Dagenham

"The King's Speech"

Gabriel's pick: "The King's Speech"

Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director, or Producer

I haven't seen any of these.

Director

*127 Hours

*Black Swan

*Inception

*The King's Speech

*The Social Network

"The Social Network" (David Fincher) won a Golden Globe for this category. BAFTA may follow suit. My pick? "Inception." Chris Nolan. Need you ask?

Gabriel's pick: "The King's Speech"

Original Screenplay

*Black Swan

*The Fighter

*Inception

*The Kid's Are All Right

*The King's Speech

Chris Nolan is well deserving for "Inception." If not him, my next choice is David Seidler for the "The King's Speech." It was positively delightful.

Gabriel's pick: "The King's Speech"

Adapted Screenplay

*127 Hours

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

*The Social Network

*Toy Story 3

*True Grit

Once again, this category at the Golden Globes went to "The Social Network." Of the movies I've seen in this category, I'd be more comfortable if "127 Hours" won.

Gabriel's pick "Toy Story 3"

Film Not in the English Language

Biutiful

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

I Am Love

Of Gods and Men

The Secret in Their Eyes

Haven't seen any of them. Best guess is either "Biutiful" or "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo."

Animated Film

*Despicable Me

*How to Train Your Dragon

*Toy Story 3

"Toy Story 3" won the Golden Globe. I'm still holding out for "How to Train Your Dragon."

Gabriel's pick: "How to Train Your Dragon"

Leading Actor

Javier Bardem - Biutiful

*Jeff Bridges - True Grit

*Jesse Eisenberg - The Social Network

*Colin Firth - The King's Speech

*James Franco - 127 Hours

Colin Firth won the Golden Globe. But Jeff Bridges wasn't nominated. So...

I'd be happy with either one of them winning.

Gabriel's pick: Colin Firth

Leading Actress

*Annette Bening - The Kids Are All Right

*Julianne Moore - The Kids Are All Right

*Natalie Portman - Black Swan

Noomi Rapace - The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

*Hailee Steinfeld - True Grit

Natalie.

Portman.

Gabriel's pick: Hailee Steinfeld

Supporting Actor

*Christian Bale - The Fighter

*Andrew Garfield - The Social Network

*Pete Postlethwaite - The Town

*Mark Ruffalo - The Kids Are All Right

*Geoffrey Rush - The King's Speech

Christian Bale won the Golden Globe. I'd be happy if he won the BAFTA too.

Gabriel's pick: Christian Bale

Supporting Actress

*Amy Adams - The Fighter

*Helena Bonham Carter - The King's Speech

*Barbara Hershey - Black Swan

Lesley Manville - Another Year

Miranda Richardson - Made in Dagenham

Hmmm.

Of the three that I've seen, I'd choose Amy Adams.

Gabriel's pick: Amy Adams

Original Music

*127 Hours

*Alice in Wonderland

*How to Train Your Dragon

*Inception

*The King's Speech

"How to Train Your Dragon" or "Inception."

I love them both.

Gabriel's pick: "How to Train Your Dragon"

Cinematography

*127 Hours

*Black Swan

*Inception

*The King's Speech

*True Grit

I'd probably choose "Black Swan" here.

Gabriel's pick: "True Grit"

Editing

*127 Hours

*Black Swan

*Inception

*The King's Speech

*The Social Network

I'd probably have to say "Black Swan" here as well.

It just adds so much to the madness.

But, "Inception" was really well done too.

And so was "127 Hours."

Gabriel's pick: "The King's Speech"

Production Design

*Alice in Wonderland

*Black Swan

*Inception

*The King's Speech

*True Grit

"Alice in Wonderland" for it's colors and charming madness.

"Black Swan" for its eeriness.

"Inception" for it's dream environments.

"The King's Speech" for its sparseness.

"True Grit" for being pure western, without overdoing it.

Five way tie!

Gabriel's pick: "Alice in Wonderland"

Costume Design

*Alice in Wonderland

*Black Swan

*The King's Speech

Made in Dagenham

*True Grit

It may go to one of three (that I've seen):

"Alice in Wonderland"

"The King's Speech"

"True Grit"

Gabriel's pick: "Alice in Wonderland"

Sound

*127 Hours

*Black Swan

*Inception

*The King's Speech

*True Grit

I'd say either "Inception" or "Black Swan."

Gabriel's pick: "The King's Speech"

Special Visual Effects

*Alice in Wonderland

*Black Swan

*Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1

*Inception

*Toy Story 3

"Toy Story 3" over "How To Train Your Dragon" in this category? They can't be serious. And why is an animated feature even in this category.

I have a four way tie between the live action movies nominated.

Gabriel's pick: "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows"

Make Up & Hair

*Alice in Wonderland

*Black Swan

*Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1

*The King's Speech

Made in Dagenham

It will probably go to "Alice in Wonderland."

I don't quite get "The King's Speech" nomination. Perhaps them making Jennifer Ehle look older?

Gabriel's pick: "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows"

Short Animation

The Eagleman Stag

Matter Fisher

Thursday

Don't know.

Short Film

Connect

Lin

Rite

Turning

Until the River Runs Red

Don't know.

Orange Wednesday's Rising Award

Gemma Arterton

Andrew Garfield

Tom Hardy

Aaron Johnson

Emma Stone

I don't like Gemma.

Andrew is the next Spidey, and was very good in "The Social Network" so he may get votes.

Tom Hardy is just awesome, so he has my vote.

Aaron Johnson was great in "Kick-Ass", and was probably great as John Lennon in "Nowhere Boy" (but I haven't seen it yet).

Emma Stone was delightful in "Easy A."
