Where I Went:

Middlesboro, KY (Cumberland Gap)

What I Saw:

Lincoln's Boyhood National Memorial

Skyland Road - Pinnacle Overlook (at Cumberland Gap)

A lot of highway.

Journal:

I got a little bit later start than anticipated and made an unscheduled stop at Lincoln's Boyhood National Memorial.  It was very neat there, complete with a living history farm.

I made the long drive to Cumberland Gap - and my car had a heart attack going up the mountain to the Pinnacle Overlook.  As in, it reached the top and rid its body of all coolant.  After a mechanic who happened to be up there checked out the car, it was determined that the coolant reservoir was overfilled earlier that morning and it had just 'bubbled' out - a result of the heat of the day and the incline of the road to the top.

I was sufficiently freaked out though, and after my trip back down the mountain I drove to a hotel closer than I had initially planned.  Though, I didn't realize at the time that the route would take me winding up-down-and-around mountains in areas with no phone signal and the sound of banjos following me down the road.  It took me over an hour to drive 20 miles.

Yeah, that was a fun start to my trip.
